Can a nonsmoker get throat cancer from a heavy smoking boyfriend?

Question by Marie M: Can a nonsmoker get throat cancer from a heavy smoking boyfriend?
Basically my new boyfriend is a heavy smoker and I recently have burning and pain in my throat and ears. I am wondering if kissing him (swallowing carcinogens) could give me throat cancer, but his throat is already used to the toxins?

not from kissing, but from being around him

Yeap. . . you can get cancer from second hand smoke. Go see a pulmonary specialist if your throat’s bothering you that much. I’m sure you’d rather be safe than sorry. Good Luck!

You should avoid his smoke as much as possible. That is what the danger of smokers is. If you have burning sensations only from kissing him, I would doubt it is because he is a smoker, unless you happen to be allergic to the tarry gunk in his mouth.

its not just when you kiss him, its dangerous even if he is smoking around you. passive smoking is very harmful… yes its very possible

I have often wondered that myself when I am kissing my non-smoking boyfriend. I am a heavy smoker so there must be stuff in my saliva and when we are kissing, we are often exchanging saliva.

I think so , just my opinion.. I had approximately60 employees and 5 of them who were not smokers ended up with cancer of various kinds and all 5 had spouses who smoked… I think the second hand smoke was the culprit……
