Technically, yes…melanomas can develop in the eyes, nailbeds and bowel. More often, though, the cancer has metastasized from a skin lesion that was never diagnosed or from a melanoma that wasn’t completely removed. There are also amelanotic melanomas that are not dark colored, so they might be overlooked.
