What Is The Best Treatment For Metastatic Melanoma?

Someone close to me has been diagnosed and the outcome is looking very bad. Does anyone know of any hope for this? He is stage 4.

There isn’t a best treatment. We haven’t found one yet that is effective. You may want to consider a clinical trial.

Most clinical trials for melanoma are not available until stage IV.
I really haven’t seen anything that great promise in the near future.
Surgery is the best treatment. Chemo does not work well. I assume be has already done high dosage of Interferon.
Probably in the mood I am in I shouldn’t even be answering this question.

clinical trials are his best hope, chemo doesnt seem to be too helpful. It is one of the worst types of cancer to have.

This is one of the worst cancers, IMHO. There are no great treatments here. High-dose interferon is toxic, poorly tolerated and minimally effective. Occasional patients will respond to temozolomide, which is quite well tolerated and mostly replaced DTIC, but again marginally effective. I encourage patients to primarily consider clinical trials for this disease.
    Blessings
